Commit to Change - Win a Trip to the Inauguration

For the past week or so, my colleagues and I have been feverishly working to unveil a new online civic engagement campaign, "Change Begins With Me." One lucky person (and their guest) will have an opportunity to participate in the 44th Presidential Inauguration and MLK Day of Service related festivities in Washington, DC.  The concept is simple, no idea is too big or too small - just tell us how you commit to "change" your community, neighborhood, or nation...and you'll have a chance to win the trip.

But, last night as the site went live and we all went home to take a deep breath - something funny happened. We started exchanging emails and asking each other - "what would you commit to change?" And it became obvious that if we had an opportunity to participate and post our commitment for the world to see - it would be difficult to narrow down what it was that we wanted to change, especially in the 250 character limited space.

I'm still pondering my commitment to change - but I think it will come in the form of committing several hours a month to helping small nonprofit organizations in my community better utilize social media to share their work more broadly. I figured that was not only a "social citizeny" thing to do - but it would benefit those organizations in my community who are in great need of some "pro bono" help these days.

So, what's your commitment to change? Tell us below - but make sure you head over to the Case Foundation to enter for your chance to win.

As a neighborhood entrepreneur I commit to research all possibilities to bring Wi-Fi Internet access to CP Neighborhood Park in 2009.

My goal is to activate solutions that will remove our neighborhood from “Intensive care” on our city “health map” by 2011.

As an elected officer of the CP Neighborhood Improvement Association I commit to the mission of the CP Action Team to improve the quality of life in the CP Neighborhood through neighborhood revitalization. I will make myself available to receive input from all residents and property owners in the neighborhood, young and old, and supervise our CP VISTA worker to accomplish this. I will respect all input and lead with consensus. I will continuously research opportunities, using a team approach and collaboration, I will use all resources available to the CP Neighborhood both public and private. This is an exciting time to be an agent for change in the CP Neighborhood and in the great USA!
